Harvest Holiday Magic: Decorating with Homegrown Veggies!

Harvest Holiday Magic: Decorating with Homegrown Veggies!

Flowers are an excellent choice for decorating your spaces and elevating their look and feel. But have you ever thought of other unique and creative ideas for home decor? How about homegrown veggies? It may sound weird at first, but the results are outstanding. All you have to do is display them around the empty corners and watch the magic unfold before your eyes.

A few years ago I decided that I wanted to grow my own pumpkins, but I wasn’t ready for the big mommas yet. So I went with Jack be Little Pumpkins. You know the variety, the small baby pumpkins that you can buy for a couple dollars from a patch or farmers market this time of year. I was determined to save the money (yeah right in hindsight) and grow my own decor. It made sense to me then and it still makes sense now. This cute little pumpkin that I grew from seed now lays sprinkled around my home. And it brings me as much joy as my flowers. And I bet it could bring you joy too!

There is no doubt that flowers are lovely and make up for excellent decor, but they can also be costly. This is when the true benefit of the homegrown veggies comes into action. In addition to their low price, they can later be used for cooking, unlike the flowers that sadly go into the compost bin.

So, if you want to try your hand at jack be littles or gourds for your home, look no further equate I have some interesting ways to use your vegetables as food decor for the upcoming holidays!

Gorgeous Jars

Are you bored of your simple and dull workplace or office? Adding some lovely greens could spice up your living or working environment. All you need is mason jars to fill them up with soil. Then get a few herbs from your garden or your favorite store and plant them. Trust me, it will give you a pretty and natural display. And it smells delicious!

Also, you could add labels on these jars with the name of each herb to make them more meaningful and creative. This is one of the easiest ways to utilize food decor, as it hardly needs any watering to keep it fresh and thriving. This also makes for some great gift ideas!

Centerpieces

Another amazing way to utilize veggies is to place them in glass vases or clay pots and beautifully display them as centerpieces throughout your living space. Kind of like a living cornucopia! You can use parsley, basil, rosemary, and even cherry tomatoes to make this look amusing and delightful. Piles of gourds, jack be littles, even opening mini pumpkins and tucking some fresh cut flowers into them. It can transform a tablescape!

This arrangement will look naturally beautiful and pleasing to the eyes. Another interesting idea is using a pumpkin as an anchor on the table. Just one. Very Couture.

Decorating with vegetables

Some of the best vegetables that have dynamic colors for decor are lettuce, purple kale, carrots, radishes, and Thai basil. They have astonishing flowers, which look amazing when placed on a dining or garden table. Also, to express more vibrancy and unique look you can add small zucchinis or eggplant. The last ones coming out of your summer garden may be the perfect addition to add that color on your table. Nonetheless, add veggies that complement your living space.

Hanging display

How about using your favorite dried herbs and stringing them together to make a circular display of wreaths? It will definitely smell fantastic and look awesome hung up on your walls. Herbs are easy to bunch and dry on the walls, hanging from the ceiling, and even tucked in a vase. An herbal wreath on your door adds a warm sensory experience into your home. A floral arrangement around your chandelier can cast shadows and dance throughout the evening. Any time you do a hanging display make sure that each item is securely fastened. You don’t want your visitors having anything fall on them during the evening.

Bowl Display

Besides being lovely to look at, decorating with vegetables can be an interesting and fun experience. Collect all the greens you can’t find a use for and place them meticulously in a bowl until they form a desired shape. For instance, you can create a heart with cucumber, cherry tomatoes, broccoli florets, and small dipping dishes. First, outline the heart with slices of cucumber, then the cherry tomatoes and broccoli, and in the center, place a dipping sauce of your choice. You can slice and open them to add texture and vibrant colors to your table. You can also just pile each vegetable into it’s own bowl for a cleaner look.
